Returning to Birth Work: A New Chapter Rooted in Rest, Growth, and Purpose | Raleigh Fayetteville Birth Photographer

Raleigh motherhood and birth photography has always held a special place in my heart. After stepping away in 2020, I’m returning to the work that stirs something deep in my soul: documenting motherhood, birth stories, and the transformation that comes with them. These are the beginnings of a lifetime story—the strength, the softness, and the moments that remind us how powerful and beautiful motherhood truly is.

After stepping away from birth photography in 2020, I’m finally returning to the work that has always stirred something deep in my soul: documenting motherhood and birth stories.

When Covid hit, everything paused—including my work. I took a step back from taking on clients, though here and there I captured a few beautiful, unforgettable moments—a New Year’s Eve hospital birth and a home birth during the heart of the pandemic. But for the most part, I went quiet.

Covid was the catalyst I needed to remind myself that I, too, needed a break. A time of rest. A time to rethink what my goals were and are with my work. I was feeling lost as a photographer, questioning whether or not my work truly had an impact—on mothers, on families, on the broader experience of motherhood and what it means in our lives.

The past five years gave me something I hadn’t realized I needed: time. Time to be fully present with my own children as they transitioned from wide-eyed kids to tweens to full-blown teenagers. Motherhood shifted for me in ways I never expected. One minute they were toddlers with sticky hands, and in the blink of an eye, they’re making their own plans, forming their own opinions, growing into themselves.

And through that shift, I was reminded of something important: motherhood changes us, and it changes constantly.

That’s what brought me back to birth work. From those first contractions to the sleepy newborn days, and all the messy, magical moments in between—these are the beginnings of a story that unfolds for a lifetime.

I want to document those first chapters again. The strength. The softness. The transformation. Whether you’re birthing in Raleigh, navigating new motherhood in Greensboro, or growing your family in Fayetteville—your story matters.

These first years of being a mom happen so fast, even if, in the moment, it feels like the nights will never end or the toddler tantrums will never stop. But they do. We grow—into ourselves, into new versions of motherhood, into women we never imagined becoming. And those moments deserve to be remembered.

Motherhood doesn’t look the same for everyone, and that’s the beauty of it. No matter where you are on your journey—expecting your first baby or navigating life with teens—I never want any woman to feel alone in her experience.

I’m back, and I’m ready to hold space for your story.

If you’re in Raleigh, Fayetteville, or Greensboro and looking for someone to document your motherhood or birth journey, I would be honored to walk alongside you. Let’s preserve the beauty, the truth, and the transformation—together.
