4 Things for Your Postpartum Bag Most People Don’t Consider | Raleigh Birth Photography

Raleigh Birth Photography – Everyone talks about what to pack for labor, but what about those first few days after birth? Whether you deliver vaginally or via C-section, postpartum recovery is real — and having a few thoughtful items on hand can make a big difference in your comfort and peace of mind.

1. A Robe You’ll Actually Want to Wear

Choose a robe that feels like a warm hug — soft, breathable, and nursing-friendly. Bonus points if it makes you feel a little more like yourself in those hazy early hours.

2. Your Own Adult Diapers or Postpartum Undies

Yes, hospitals will provide mesh underwear. No, they’re not particularly comfortable. Bring your own high-waisted postpartum underwear or adult diapers (many moms love the Frida Mom ones) for a more secure and dignified experience.

3. Nipple Balm — Even If You’re Not Breastfeeding Yet

Dry, sensitive skin happens fast after birth. A gentle balm (like lanolin or Earth Mama) can soothe discomfort, whether or not you’re breastfeeding. It’s also great for lips, hands, or anything feeling dry from hospital air.

4. A Notebook (or Notes App) or Voice Memos for Emotions and Details

The first 48 hours after birth are a blur. Write down or record how you felt, the baby’s weight, your favorite nurse’s name, or what surprised you. You’ll be grateful later when you can’t remember what day it is, let alone your room number.

Whether you’re giving birth in Raleigh, Greensboro, or Fayetteville, a little extra planning goes a long way. Your postpartum experience deserves just as much love and care as your birth — maybe even more.
