Raleigh birth photographer – Hiring a birth photographer is a deeply personal decision, and it’s completely normal to have questions — lots of them! Here are the top five things families ask me when they’re considering documenting their birth story.
1. When Do You Arrive?
I’m on call for you starting at 38 weeks. Once labor begins, we stay in touch — and I typically arrive when you’re in active labor (around 5–6 cm) or when contractions are consistent. My goal is to be there before things get too intense and stay through the golden hour after baby is born.
2. Will You Be in the Room the Whole Time?
Yes — unless you need privacy. I document quietly and respectfully from a corner of the room, capturing the unfolding story without getting in the way. Most clients say they forget I’m even there.
3. What If I Don’t Want Certain Things Photographed?
Your comfort always comes first. We’ll chat in advance about your preferences — modesty, angles, what you want captured and what you’d prefer to skip. This is *your* birth story, and I respect your boundaries completely.
4. What If I Need a C-Section?
Every hospital is different, but if your provider and staff allow it, I’m happy to photograph as much of your experience as possible. If I can’t be in the OR, I’ll be waiting to capture those first recovery moments, baby meeting family, and golden hour bonding.
5. How Do I Book a Birth Story?
Reach out early — most families book during the second trimester. I only take a limited number of births per month to stay on-call and available. Once booked, we’ll schedule a consultation to walk through everything and build trust before the big day.
