Some personal photography projects start with a big, grand plan.
Mine?
Started with just wanting to pick my camera up more for myself again. Fifteen years ago I picked up photography as a hobby to take better pictures of my life, of my kids and their lives… and then it quickly turned into a business. Documenting other families- some of the biggest, most pivotal moments of their lives. Offering family photography in Raleigh is still a delight, and a huge honor being invited to sacred, often intimate moments.
My kids are getting older, and not so much camera friendly unless it’s on their terms. Which, I get. The teenage years are a weird place to exist sometimes. I still need to make time to work on my craft though. To fill my cup, per se. I started a self-portrait project. It’s just for myself. Of myself.
A gift to myself.
The intention is to document at least one self portrait a day for a year. It won’t always be pretty, but it will always be honest. I’m getting older, and I learned a long time ago that aging is truly a privilege.
