Hue and You – July 2025

For July’s entry in my Hue and You project, I explored the radiant warmth of sunburst yellow—a tone that doesn’t just catch the eye, but seems to radiate nostalgia, energy, and a touch of grit. This mural of Herb Thomas and his legendary 1951 Hudson Hornet captured all of that and more.

Painted boldly on a brick wall in a small Southern town, this tribute to a NASCAR pioneer pulses with vintage Americana. The vibrant yellow lettering—“Fabulous Hudson Hornet” and “1951 & 1953 NASCAR Champion”—pops like sunlight against the turquoise car and oceanic sky. It’s not just a nod to racing history, but to the kind of resilience and pride that so often colors roadside murals like these.

I chose this image because it felt quintessentially sunburst yellow—not just in hue, but in emotion. Yellow, in its sunburst form, is assertive and celebratory. It speaks to victory, movement, and confidence, which makes it the perfect lens for capturing the spirit of summer and the timeless appeal of speed and ambition.

As with all things in Hue and You, I try to let color lead the narrative. In this case, yellow brought me to a place where legacy meets sunshine, where the past is painted bright and bold for all to see.

For those following along with the project, next up is August’s color: Tomato Red—bold, ripe, and full of heat. I can’t wait to see where it takes us.
